Just weeks after announcing he is “clean” of steriods.

I’m just sayin’…

Not sure a cyst is a bi-product of steroid withdrawal… but I am clearly no expert here. Didn’t gammons say that the rest of the list of 103 will be leaked? When is that happenin’? I don’t think I have touched on the steroid/Arod subject, but it is just so sad. I clearly don’t understand these athletes. Who gives them advice? Arod has to have seen what has happened to Clemens and Bonds…. and should have learned that if he just comes clean, he should be OK. Is it even a footnote in Giambi’s career at this point? And his story is so over the top poor. What is the benefit of taking OTC steroids from the Dominican Republic as opposed to the good stuff from America? If you make $25 M a year, can’t you afford the good stuff? Knowing that your tests were leaked, wouldn’t you think that the type of steroid would be part of that evidence? Just pathetic…. I am glad he is hurt

A cyst might not a bi-product of steriod withdrawal, but the torn labrum that caused the cyst could very well be.

I agree about A-Rod - for all that money, why not go for the good stuff??

He should have come completely clean - Yankee fans would have welcomed him back. Especially if he hits his usual 290/40/120.

Instead, we had that JOKE of an interview with Gammons, and that even bigger JOKE of a press conference.

His performance at that press conference was pathetic; his story was clearly contrived to concede only that which was clearly proved by the leaked test. He may as well have suggested that his guilt depends on what the meaning of the word “is” is. As usual Dan is right; there is just no point in failing to come clean.

And the allusion to Giambi is most apt: Like ARod, a very highly-paid Yankee who was outed as a steroid user. What happened to Giambi? He came closest to coming clean (apologizing without “officially” stating what he was apologizing for… but at least he didn’t insult us all with some fakakta half-story from which he’d after to later retreat… again). The Yankee fans booed him. I believe there was talk of injury (related or not to coming off the juice). Then he hits a game-winning, extra-inning (pinch-hit maybe?) HR at Yankee Stadium… and the fans loved him again.

Fans are sheep. Look at his first preseason game after the “admission”. Now it was at the Blue Jays facility, but still, it’s exactly how things would/will play out in Yankee Stadium. He was booed in his first at-bat. He hits a home run, and his universally cheered as he crosses home plate. Over and done.

On ARod and ‘Roids, I fully admit that I’m disappointed. I really wanted him to be “clean”. He’s a Yankee, so I hate him as a result. He’s also a fraud (personally, not professionally), so there’s that for which I have disdain as well. But he’s the best all-around player in the game right now (slightly ahead of Pujols, IMHO). I’m not sure why it should matter (cuz the Steroids Era had most of ‘em - hitters *and* pitchers - doing the roids, so… my abacus tells me that *is* a level playing field) - but I wanted there to be no legitimate questions of ARod’s cleanliness when he broke Bonds (nee Aaron’s) HR record. I’m not surprised he took ‘em, cuz it seems obvious that the late Ken Caminiti’s assertion that at least 80% of MLB was juicing seems pretty accurate to me now (even though that assertion was panned and derided at the time he made it). But I am disappointed.

As for the cyst and torn labrum, who the hell knows if they’re related to the juice or not? Does it matter? Maybe it does… I dunno. But this whole mess arguably leaves Jeter as “the clean superstar poster boy” in the sport right now… and I’m already sick of looking at *that* guy. That said, much as I loathe him (simply for the laundry he wears, cuz he is a great hitter and a heads-up ballplayer), I will be disappointed if it ever comes out that *he* took something… though I won’t be surprised. And yes, that applies to any Red Sox star as well. There’s no doubt at least some of ‘em took something - but good luck guessing who’s actually been clean the whole time.

It’s like ESPN’s Michael Smith said a few weeks ago on Around the Horn, “It’s no longer about ‘clean’ and ‘dirty’. It’s about ‘caught’ and ‘not caught’.” Sadly, he’s right.
