It's funny. Junichi Tazawa throws six scoreless innings, "scattering" 8 hits and 1 BB in this win. Conversely, on Sunday night, through Beckett's first six innings, he'd also given up 8 hits, and with no walks... but didn't do a good job of "scattering"... as the Yankees scored 7 runs in that affair. Now, when 4 of those 8 hits are HRs... um, tough to "scatter" in that scenario. The 9th hit he gave up, in the 8th inning, was Matsui's 2nd HR of the evening... for those keeping score at home.

Coming into the series, I found it difficult to believe the Sox would win either start from Penny or Tazawa - and they could certainly have gotten swept in the Sabathia-Beckett matchup in the finale... but Beckett appeared the best chance for a line victory. As it turns out, it was the guy who was pitching in the California Penal... er, the Japanese Industrial League last year (and Tazawa didn't even have to steal a car to get there).

I'll be very curious to see if Tazawa faces the Yankees when the two teams face off in NY for their final tete-a-tete in mid-September... and if so, I'll be very interested to see how he fares. If Penny is any indication, he'll follow up the shutout start with... um, a not-as-good start.
