Boston Legal
Not sure how many folks watch ”Boston Legal”, David E. Kelley’s follow-up to “The Practice”. (As an aside, have you seen this guy? And he’s got Michelle Pfeiffer… for a long time… mercy.)
With this new fandangled TiVo that me and the missus now have, we get to watch each episode at our convenience - rather than foolishly attempt to remain awake after 10pm each Tuesday evening (I might as well try to walk on water, as I’ll be about as successful). So we were getting caught up on the past couple episodes yesterday… hilarious as usual.
The one from two weeks ago, I believe, had Denny Crane in court for breaking the law by shipping medical waste (i.e. human fat) to a foreign country (i.e. Norway) to be made into fuel. Criminal charges are brought by the smarmy DA (was lieutenant for last couple years on “NYPD Blue” before Sipowicz took over at the end). He doesn’t like the lawyers at Crane, Poole & Schmidt cuz they always beat him (a track record only bested by Perry Mason in the annals of TV courtroom shows) - and they generally mock him while doing it (a tad unlike Mr. Mason’s buttoned-down, all-business style).
So in the end, Denny Crane takes the stand and rambles on about his Uncle Bill (cuz “we all have an Uncle Bill, don’t we?”) and gets off. He and Alan Shore (James Spader is fantastic in this role) are celebrating in court, and the DA makes some comment about them being classless in victory.
Denny retorts, something to the effect of: “Hey, it’s the LT pout. Blame it on our head coach, sport.”
It was subtle, perhaps missed by some (definitely missed by my wife, until I pointed it out and replayed it for her… benefits of TiVo, and all).
But freakin’ hilarious. I doubt “the LT pout” will catch on like “the Peyton Manning face” that BSG introduced so many years ago… but it’s still funny.
Kelley’s done this before (at least on this show), most notably introducing dialogue on the 2004 baseball postseason into the show - generally at the end, when Denny and Alan do their epilogue with scotch and cigars out on the balcony. I suspect (and hope) the Boston sports scene will give him occasion to do it again.
Okay, I’m done now.

Boston Legal is oustanding.
I haven’t caught too many eps this season, but I did catch one where Julie Bowen’s character was in some sort of argument with her baby daddy, and said something like, “What are you gonna do a Shawne Merriman dance or something?”

Speaking of Julie Bowen, she shouldn’t wear so much blue eye makeup. It makes her look cheap. (Not in a Tex Cobb, horse necrophiliac sort of way… but I still like her far better with her “Happy Gilmore” look.)
