Options for Seeing the Yankees

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

From the NY Post:

choose one of the two options to see a Mariners-Yankees game this season, and from the very best seats:

Option 1: Two tickets to Tuesday night, June 30, Mariners at Yanks, cost for just the tickets, $5,000.

Option 2: Two round-trip airline tickets to Seattle, Friday, Aug. 14, return Sunday the 16th, rental car for three days, two-night double occupancy stay in four-star hotel, two top tickets to both the Saturday and Sunday Yanks-Mariners games, two best-restaurant-in-town dinners for two. Total cost, $2,800. Plus-frequent flyer miles.

Slashed Ticket Prices Allow Lesser Nobility to Attend Yankees Games

This is great. Also true:

“I know that part of what I’m paying for is the Yankee mystique, but seriously, even at half-off, this is a bit ridiculous,” said Raja Nuur Perak Ismaramudsa, who by tradition is descended from the ancient god of fire whose ribs formed the Indonesian islands that he governs from an alabaster and onyx palace. “There’s a limit to how much your mythology lets you ask of a person, and the Yankees are really pushing it.”

I’m really torn between the desire to see the new stadium, and my revulsion at a) the vast sums of public money used to construct it and b) the vast sums of personal money required for admission, and for beer once inside. As much as I love the Yankees, I think I hate being made to feel like a schmuck even more.

Tim Wakefield - he’s at it again

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

It’s early.  I know that.  But outside of Zack Greinke (a great story, btw) in KC, Tim Wakefield has arguably been the best pitcher in baseball this April.  The numbers:  (more…)

Hey Tank, nice pitching staff

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

What do the Yankees have in payroll in their pitching staff… a little over $60 million, if my abacus is correct?  And that buys the only team ERA over 6.00 in the majors - good for last in the entire major leagues.  Very, very impressive.

As of today, NY Yankees team ERA - 6.18.  The top two currently in the majors?  KC - 3.34, and Pittsburgh 3.36.  Oh, btw… the *entire* team payrolls for each:  KC - $58 million, and Pittsburgh - $49 million.

I’m not sayin’… I’m just sayin’.

Sox-Twins call Game 1 - then play Game 2

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

This is old news, but I’ve been meaning to post on it.  Last Wednesday, the Sox had a doubleheader (due to a rainout from Tuesday night) against the Twins.  In the afternoon game, the Sox were up 10-1 in the bottom of the 7th, with one out, and men on second and third.  A rain delay was called - and about an hour and a half later, the game was called.  Wakefield technically pitched a complete game, and the Red Sox got the victory.  Several hours later, the rains let up - allowing the teams to play the second game of the doubleheader, in full.

David Price: This year’s Evan Longoria

Or.. maybe not.  As noted, he is already signed through 2012, so there’s no apparent benefit to sending him down purely to delay the start of his arbitration clock (as appeared to be the case with Longoria last season).

But… what more “seasoning” does this guy need, fer crissakes?  Hey, as a Red Sox fan, I’d *rather* he weren’t with the Rays - but I admit I don’t get it.
