2008 NFL Answer Key

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Okay, time to get on record, people.

Who ya got?  Here’s what my crystal ball tells me:

The Spectacle of Spector

Friday, May 16th, 2008

[Ed. note:  This originally appeared as part of an e-mail response specifically to Gonzo, but it is reprinted here for feedback from the group on whole.]

As for Arlen Spector, I can only hope that his brethren in Congress take him aside when the cameras are off and tell him to start taking his pills again.. cuz he’s off his rocker.  I would sincerely hope that the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have any number of more meaningful things to do (like… clipping their toenails, or… watching grass grow - or, I dunno, stuff that pertains to the myriad issues actually facing our country currently) - and would make their senior peer aware of their desire to indeed focus elsewhere.

From yesterday’s Boston Globe:

Hohler assembles a lot of things we’ve heard previously about Matt Walsh/WalkthroughGate - and perhaps adds a few things we were not aware of.

Asante Samuel wants to play for a winner

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

I didn’t see the press conference, or even soundbites from it, but a few different people have told me that in his Eagles press conference, Asante Samuel said he signed with the Eagles so he’d have a chance at winning a championship.

Now, before I rant a tad… did anyone actually hear the soundbite, or know where I can get access to it?  (A cursory Google search left me unfulfilled.)  Its possible he was misquoted - or more to the point, meant to indicate that of the teams willing him to give him the money he was looking for, the Eagles were a team (or the team) likely to be a championship contender.  It’s possible.  But if not, then… (more…)

Specter’s SpyGate Sequel

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Roger Goodell met with Arlen Specter about SpyGate and the senator is still not completely happy with the situation:

I’m a Patriots fan, so probably biased on this thing.  My position is this is beyond a freakin’ joke - that Specter is trying to retroactively get his beloved Eagles their first Lombardi Trophy, and he’s wasting everyone’s time in this pursuit.

Can someone, preferably not a Patriots fan, tell me where I’m mistaken?  Is there actual value in Specter’s position?

Bruschi in Five Super Bowls

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Tedy Bruschi has now joined a select list of players who’ve played in at least five Super Bowls in their careers - and who knows, maybe next year he’ll become only the second guy to appear in six.

Here’s the list of players (with number of SB wins in parentheses) and the teams they went to the Super Bowl with:

I Just Flew in From Arizona, and Boy, are My Arms Tired…

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

But seriously folks, I haven’t posted before and felt I had to weigh in this time.  Much will be said and written about Superbowl XLII, from many angles and with the usual headlines:

  • ‘Underdogs Become Champions’ - Were they the biggest superbowl underdogs ever?  Maybe. Maybe not.
  • ‘Cheaters Never Prosper’ - Did the Pats really cheat?  If, so, does everyone do it?  I’ll wait a few years for the 16,000 page report from Congress before passing final judgement on that one.
  • ‘Eli Comes of Age’, ‘Brady Ruins Career’, ’Belichick is a Sack of Crap’ - All true.
