Did you guys hear that Chris Benoit is dead?

Now, the first thought for most would likely be, “That’s too bad - another wrestler dies from a drug overdose, or too much steroids.”  But that doesn’t appear to be the case - as his wife and 7-yr-old son were also found dead.

Then again, among the few details we have is that Benoit backed out of wrestling card the night before due to the ubiquitous “personal reasons”.  It’s horrible to speculate, I realize… but I wonder if it’ll turn out to be a murder-suicide scenario.  I dunno - I have a difficult time figuring out how somebody is so upset that they kill their spouse and then themselves.  That’s hard enough for me to get my head around.  But if this was indeed the scenario, the boy is dead too.  No matter how upset you are at your spouse, or at life, or whatever… I don’t get killing your own child.

I’ve fallen into the trap of conjecture, and I doubt I’m the only one.  I suppose morbid fascination dictates that I’ll be curious to know what actually happened.  And then I obviously didn’t know the family personally, it seems like it’d be “better” if this senselessness was at the hands of an outside party - rather than the unthinkable possibility that it was Benoit (or his wife).

It’s clearly a tragedy when anyone is killed - and the legions of Chris Benoit fans will perhaps focus their mourning on their hero.  All due respect to Benoit and his wife, to me the greatest tragedy is the 7-yr-old boy.  Whatever the reasons or circumstances, I struggle to believe there’s any reason that a 7-yr-old child had to be murdered in the Benoit home.
