ESPN ratings

Um… yeah, Gonzo - why exactly would ESPN choose to air the Sox-Yanks?
“Ratings bonanza
Sunday night’s Yankees-Red Sox game was ESPN’s most-viewed Sunday
night game ever with 5.48 million viewers, surpassing the 5.29
million for a Yankees-Red Sox game on July 25, 2004.
It was the most-viewed regular-season ESPN game since Mark McGwire
hit his 61st home run Sept. 7, 1998.”

Curious - did they break down the ratings in NY and New England, vs rest of the country?

Not that I saw, but what does it matter? Clearly the game would be watched more in New England (or at least Boston proper) and NY than the rest of the country. Similarly a Mets-Braves game would be watched more in NY and Atlanta than the rest of the country.
The point is that (a) the “rest of the country” is more interested in Sox-Yanks than Braves-Mets, or anyone else, and possibly (b) more of the New England and NY markets are interested in Sox-Yanks than Atlanta and NY would be in Braves-Mets, etc.
Even if *everybody* in the New York and New England markets was watching the game (clearly not the case), it’s still not enough to pull the highest *national* number in over 10 years for a game i.e. my point is proven, admit defeat.
