Fake recruit

February 7th, 2008 by Cliffy

Did you guys hear about this:

 http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=771601

Dude’s got some issues, eh?

I realize I occasionally use silly things like “logic” and “long-term thinking” in my everday life, but… uh… this kid didn’t realize that the balloon would pop?  Let’s say he got all the way to next fall without someone finding out (unlikely… but let’s make that leap).  Um… wouldn’t the Cal coach realize that he had no idea who the hell this kid is?  Or was his plan to walk on, make the team and just cross his fingers that nobody would have a subsequent discussion about *how* he got on the team?

One other thing that the article doesn’t address:  Um… was he accepted to Cal as a student?  From what I understand, it’s a pretty good school.  And if this clown is dumb enough to think he could get away with pulling this stunt, I’ve gotta wonder if he’s bright enough to attend Cal (as much as Stanford folks like to put Cal down).

Just goofy.

This story got a little bit of play out here (with the Cal connection and all) - and I think you summed it up best: it’s just goofy.

I guess he figures that someone may take a look at him now, with the “attention” he has received, and see if he can play football?

When i just read this story 2 words come to mind: sad and pathetic. The issue I have is that there is one word that doesn’t come to mind, and that is “suprising” As weird a story as this is, it isn’t a shocking story in any way, which says a lot about our society
