George Will on Hank Aaron

I am of the view that George Will long ago traded intellectual integrity for the good life, but he remains one of the better writers on the subject of baseball. As he has done before, today he pays tribute to Hank Aaron. He also makes a point about A-Rod that everyone prepared to run him out of New York last year would do well to remember:
“When Bonds hits his 756th, real fans, who know how to read the record book, will yawn, confident that Aaron’s record will remain the real one until Alex Rodriguez, who has 175 more home runs than Bonds did when he was Rodriguez’s age, breaks it.”

I gotta tell ya - based on what i have seen from Bonds this year, he’ll be around for another year - at least. He’s going to break 800 HR. Easy.
Not saying A-Rod can’t break that mark, either, but damn - Bonds shouldn’t be doing what he’s doing soon-to-be 43….

Um… isn’t that the point? He *wouldn’t* be doing what he is doing without pharmaceutical assistance, and no, we’re not talking about aspirin for the occasional headache. And yes, I am in the camp that firmly believes he’s *still* taking something. I have no ironclad proof of that, just call it a hunch, I guess.
