Hmmmmm - things could get interesting.  Especially if it leads to strike/lockout in ‘11.  Can’t imagine one (or both) sides being stupid enough to kill the golden goosed, but we said that about MLB in ‘94, too…

    My favorite line:

“The need for a limit on rookie wages may be the only common ground players and management have.”

In other words, everybody at the table can agree to take money away from the people who aren’t at the table. Gee, that seems fair.

Your point is accurate. That said, if the league is going to have a salary cap - which necessarily limits the amount of salary available to all players… it does seem prudent that guys who’ve played in the NFL should be given preference over guys who haven’t. Certainly this could devolve into a whole discussion about the “fairness” of a salary cap, and even of a draft. However, if we allow that those two things are in place - and accept that they’re both likely to stay - I have no problem limiting a rookie’s salary, even a top rookie’s salary, to something less than tens of millions of dollars before he ever steps onto an NFL field.

Btw, for some reason when I tried to read the article, all I got from the link was gobbly-de-gook.
