OMFG, for the first time, er, ever, my household was tuned into both races, Saturday and Sunday. It may have to do with the fact that my wife's company gave Roush/Kenseth millions to decorate the car. But hey, it could just as easily have to do with the fact that I a.) eat at Arby's and b.) Use DeWalt tools.

Hey Brandine, I gots meeself un a dem dere drivers, too!

I see the source of your confusion - you ass-ume that my devotion to the Red Sox translates to a devotion to John Henry. No, sir. He's a carpetbagger, and was giftwrapped this franchise in (another) shady deal involving Osama bud Selig. (You say he used to sell used cars? Really? Never would've guessed.) I understand that (officially or unofficially) this deal could/should/would bring additional revenue into the Red Sox coffers, which could/should/would lead to an increased payroll (presumably resulting in a more talented team).

However, I don't buy my groceries at Stop&Shop just because there's a big sign on the outfield wall - and I'm not overly interested in how much money *they* donate to the Sox (which then finds it way to payroll, and presumably, more talent).

I mean, are Yankee fans beholden to only board ships manufactured by the American Shipbuilding Company? Maybe they feel that tug, but for whatever reason, I don't.

All that said, the Red Sox interest in Roush Racing might indeed make a reasonable argument for me choose a driver in that group... but did you see the part where Junior outs himself as a Fanilow? That is a far better reason for me to support his efforts. Now, if John Henry were to purchase the publishing rights to the Manilow catalog (or even better, the catalog of the Swedish Supergroup ABBA)... well, then... I'd have a decision to make, wouldn't I?

P.S. I can't drink Bud. The only Anheuser Busch product I can stomach is Michelob. When I'm on a budget, it's Old Mil (but then I guess you already knew that). When I have an extra Jackson or two to squander, it's Smithwicks. This is how I roll - Junior or no Junior. (Naturally when I'm at Mecca, it's Old Style - but here again, I'm guessing you already knew that.)

As an aside, while I certainly understand the reason for your enthusiasm for Junior, I must say I'm a bit surprised to see you declare for Earnhardt just after the announcement of the unholy alliance between Roush Racing and the Red Sox.

Jakes is right; one of the cornerstones of NASCAR's pitch to sponsors is the fanatical loyalty of fans to their favorite drivers' sponsors. So settle in to watch the race today with some Budweiser, perhaps with a sleeve of Ritz crackers to snack on, and if you aren't wearing red pants emblazoned with the number 8, then at least wear some Wrangler jeans. You'll naturally want to get a #8 decal for your car's rear window, though as a Junior fan you also have the leeway to pair that with a decal of the number 3 with wings.

Hmmm... that would seem to fit nicely with my own... um, fashion sense. Many are familiar with the "less is more" approach. Not me. I've always - firmly - been in the underappreciated "more is more" camp.

If my office wall has more than a one square inch area showing, I must cover it... with something... anything. It then follows that the same approach should apply to lettering. Much like the cars themselves, bumper to bumper with ads such that its difficult to ascertain the actual original color of the car... I will be a walking billboard - you know, like the Ivy at Wrigley Field will start becoming (as I've been told in other circles).

You just watch and root for him to win. Maybe keep up on what the latest bickerings are between him and his crew chief/cousin, and on his current negotiations with his stepmother, who he hates, on what his new contract is going to look like.

Oh, and if you go to a race you gotta wear his gear. Lot's of his gear. There is no such thing as the 'no double lettering' rule amongst NASCAR fans. In fact, if you're not head-to-toe you're not doing enough lettering.
