You wouldn't give Lowell 3yr/$36 mil? I absolutely agree that four years is out of the question... but I'd consider eating a third year at around $12 mil if it buys me two good years the next two years.

To me, it's akin to Pedro after 2004. I woulda gone 3 yrs for him - but not 4. The Mets offered four... thanks for the memories, Petey, you're always welcome in these parts.

Lowell is gone. (or if I was Theo... I would let him go). He had a career year in a contract year.. man that never happens.... He'll be 34 years old next year, and I would not want to be on the hook for a 38 year old for $16 Million in 4 years. You get the feeling that the next Lowell contract is going to end up as one of those immovable contracts in 2010. As mentioned, there are plenty of ways to fill in a corner infielder, especially when you have a guy like Youk who can play either position

As for Schilling, i would pay him ANYTHING he wants in a one year deal. That is about as low risk as you can get for a terrific #2 starter with major post-season success.
