No Moss, No Mas!
Can we please cease and desist with the reports of Randy Moss being traded to the Patriots? Again this NFL Draft weekend, “reports have surfaced” that the Patriots will be trading for Randy Moss. Enough. In the words of Roberto Duran, “No mas (and No Moss).”
As the second day of the draft starts, I’ve heard that the Raiders would take a fifth- or a sixth-round pick for him. If that’s true, what does that tell you? It seems ludicrous for a guy of Moss’s talents - even if those talents are indeed diminishing. But when a player chooses to only occasionally use said talents, he’s always useless - and arguably not even worth a sixth-round draft choice.
I’ve heard, “well, a late-round pick is worth the risk”. Given that the Patriots have roughly two dozen sixth-round picks this year (or so it seems), maybe flipping one for Randy Moss isn’t a bad gamble. Course, what’s left on that contract that (former Vikes owner) Red McCombs gave him? Actually, I suppose that doesn’t matter - as the Pats would likely require Moss to re-work the contract to make it as team-friendly as possible.
Hmmm…. perhaps if it’s only a sixth-round pick and it’s a Donte Stallworth-type contract then… no, no! I won’t be sucked in! I do not want this guy on my team!
Some like to point out that the Patriots traded (a second-round draft pick) for malcontent Corey Dillon, and that worked out well. Indeed, it worked out *very* well, in my humble opinion. But while I don’t know Corey Dillon and he’s not a good friend of mine, I have seen Corey Dillon play. Senator, Randy Moss is no Corey Dillon. Simple fact: Even when Dillon was extremely frustrated and supremely pissed at the Bengals, he still played hard *every* single down. Randy Moss takes plays off if his favorite contestant is voted off of “American Idol”. Corey Dillon came to the Patriots and was a terrific teammate by all accounts, even when the press tried to invent a “controversy” when he split carries with rookie Lawrence Maroney in 2006. How would Randy Moss react if he had to split touches with Chad Jackson (assuming that guy ever gets back on the field in a Patriot uniform)? Think about it.
By the time most of you read this, we’ll know whether or not the Pats actually forked over a 2nd-day draft pick for Randy Moss. Here’s hoping they have the good sense to just say no. And let’s hope that the next time that someone in the media is inclined to “report” that the Pats are interested in Moss, the editor responds, “No mas.” I just don’t want to hear this even rumored any more - cuz even the rumor of a slim possibility of Randy Moss playing for the New England Patriots gives me a full-blown case of oggida.
It’s baseball season and I’m a Red Sox fan. I’ve got plenty of things to give me oggida this summer - so I don’t need “New England Patriot Randy Moss” piling on, thank you very much.
Okay, I’m done now.

Well… they went and done did it. Got Randy Moss… for a fourth-round pick. Naturally I hope I’m dead wrong about him, but that said - I will be very surprised if I’m wrong.
On the bright side, the presence of Randy Moss will make Donte Stallworth look a heckuva lot better. So… I guess that’s something.
Damnit. I don’t like this move (in case you hadn’t figured that out yet).
