Was too much made of his subway comments? I believe so, yes. But that was not the full extent of his transgressions. He brought much of the "crap" on himself by continuing to remind us he was an ignorant redneck (to be polite). And I know we have different positions on the degree of crap that Aaron, Robinson, et al took as athletes blessed with tremendous skill while at the same time burdened with the "wrong" skin color at the wrong time.

But (a) I fail to see what Aaron or Robinson did to deserve *any* of the "crap" heaped upon them, and (b) at that, what they took was far worse than ButtLick-er could even fathom. Quite frankly, I'm annoyed and perhaps even offended that he would be *that* ignorant as to compare himself to them.

In short, if he would just shut up, he would be able to go away and get of additional crap that may hit the fan... Aaron and Robinson had no such exit strategy available to them.

Wow, Cliffy.

Rocker was an uneducated 25-year old jock from rural Georgia. He made an unenlightened comment about Queens and spent the rest of his career being pilloried by sanctimonious sportswriters. I say cut the guy a little slack.

From the article: "He tried to come back in 2005 in the minor leagues, but later quit. That year, he told ESPN.com: "I've taken a lot of crap from a lot of people. Probably more than anybody in the history of this sport. I know Hank [Aaron] and Jackie [Robinson] took a good deal of crap, but I guarantee it wasn't for six years. I just keep thinking: How much more am I supposed to take?""

This guy makes me want to puke - and the Congressional hearings, specifically the Family Feud episode featuring the Clemens and the McNamees makes me nauseous as well. The Congressional thing would only be a bigger joke if Richard Dawson were indeed emceeing the festivities... although The Family Feud has become a joke, a landing spot for supporting actors from successful sitcoms what with Richard Karn ("Home Improvement") and now John O'Hurley ("Seinfeld") having been the two most recent hosts. Who's next... the tag team of George Wendt and John Ratzenburger? But I digress...

I admit I'm curious to see who's lying in the McNamee-Clemens title bout, just cuz this plot has had more twists than a "Law & Order" episode (and I'm intrigued to see what the final twist will be... cuz we're not there yet) but that's about it - I have zero interest in the undercard. Did Tejada take 'em? Probably - but I really don't care. Is David Justice truly innocent? I think so - but I don't really care. How come they couldn't find Chuck Knoblauch? Don't care. What about all the other names? Don't care.

And now John Rocker hasn't been in the public eye for a while, so he's gotta go back on his previous story/protestations and now claim that he *did* take 'em, baseball knew, yadda yadda yadda. Fine. But then he's got to grace us with that abhorrant quote above? "Hank and Jackie took a good deal of crap, but I guarantee it wasn't for six years. How much more am I supposed to take?" Wow. What an asshole. Can someone please shut him up? Or take him aside and clue him into the fact that the *reason* he's taken "crap on par (or apparently worse) than what Aaron and Robinson have" [sic] is that he can't shut his halfwit pie hole so bile continues to spew forthwith and anyone with half a working brain is forced to give this guy crap for being... well, a fucking idiotic jerk of wasted DNA matter.

Give us more of McNamee now claiming that he stuck Clemens wife before an SI photo shoot if you must - especially if that's *instead* of any additional time or space given to John Rocker.

Thank you.

Pettite asks to be excused from the hearing on Wednesday, possibly because his testimony will hurt his boy Clemens and he doesn't want to be present when it does:

The Clemens situation doesn't interest you? I think it is very compelling. 2 guys with completely opposite viewpoints that have no penalties unless they lie, yet one of them is obviously lying. That is a great story.

I still don't care. I'm not sure why, I just find the whole issue very uninteresting. Maybe because I view the use of steroids as a venial sin at worst. I have plenty of other, perfectly good reasons for loathing Barry Bonds, so I don't really need his preposterous denials to help out. Wake me when its over.
