Wasn't Sabean considered a "young genius" in the Beane/Theo/Cashman class? What happened?

And bringing this back to the Sox cuz... well, that's what I do... would you rather have invested over $100 million in Barry Zito or Dice-K? I'm not saying Dice-K's gonna win the Cy Young this year, or even Rookie-of-the-Year (as some predicted). But... I feel a lot better about Dice-K's potential the next five years than I do about Zito's... perhaps that's just cuz I'm a Sox fan though.

They REALLY blew it by not signing VLAD a few years ago. That guy would have been the PERFECT protection for Bonds.

Otherwise, you nailed it - they don't like spending $$$ on draft picks. When they have had picks, they have developed some really good pitchers, but position players are awful. Just awful.

BTW - Sabean has officially lost his mind; when he traded Benetiz a few weeks ago, he actually admitted the fans/media distate for Benetiz played a part in his decision. WTF? You can't POSSIBLY let fans/media dictate your moves - that's the equivalent of letting the inmates run the asylum. And even if it were the truth, you don't admit it....
