Venezuela Locks Up Closer In Long Term Deal

Ugueth Urbina has finalized a long term deal to spend the remainder of his career with the Venezuela Penal League. Given that Urbina previously did a stint in Detroit, at least this won’t be the worst place he has played.

I just don’t see any issue with what Urbina did. I mean if I saw someone swimming in my pool, I would undoubtably throw gasoline on them and chase them with a machete. I think that is just common sense.

According to Pedro Gomez on ESPN (last seen as Barry Bonds personal shadow), the issue was between a group of older workers and a group of younger workers on Urbina’s ranch/estate/whatever. According to Urbina, the older group got jealous when the younger group started getting more attention from Oogie - so they burned members of the youner group alive to express their displeasure. I guess boiling a pet rabbit would’ve been trite and cliched, so they went to the next page in the “Jilted Lover’s Guide to Expressing Displeasure” handbook. Well, that’s if you believe Oogie, who maintains that in this scenario, he had nothing to do with anything.
According to the group of younger guys, Oogie joined (and actually led) the older guys in the assault/murder - though no reason was specifically given by Gomez as to why.
I was going to make a joke involving former Yankees reliever Lee Gutterman, something to the effect of, “I guess Urbina was really, really eager to pick up Gutterman’s famous nickname”… but decided against it, reasoning that would be in extremely poor taste.
