Wasn’t The Sopranos a good show once?

May 22nd, 2007 by Tank

It’s been so long since it didn’t suck, I have trouble remembering. I feel compelled to watch this last season in hopes that something interesting will happen (or if nothing else, maybe we find out what happened to the Russian). Yet with only two episodes left, the thing I find most exciting is that David Chase can only steal two more hours of my life. I like the show’s premise, juxtaposing the life of a mafia “family” with that of an upper-middle class suburban family, but good grief, does that really require us to sit through dim-witted AJ’s adolescent angst in real time? I did enjoy watching Tony deliver a much-deserved beat down to the creep who accosted his daughter, but not enough to justify watching AJs repeated, ill-informed complaints about American society. It’s like he was channeling Sheryl Crow. All I want are a few grisly hits on deserving scumbags by our anti-heroes. Is that really too much to ask?

Never watched an episdoe - likely due in large part to the fact that we don’t have HBO… although reruns are now airing on A&E. I’ve also never watched an episdoe of ER or X-Files, fwiw.
