Home team announcers that are true fans of the team bring the highest level of unintentional comedy to the position. I am certain I have spoke the virtues of Ron Santo in this forum, but if not, he is the epitome of homerism. It is similar to sitting next to a guy who is wasted and thinks he knows what he is talking about, but 1) has no clue 2) makes inappropriate comments on a regular basis and 3) breaks out the "Oh, Jeez" when the Cubs screw up.... Very nice... That obviously is different that actually crying because the long-time manager has so much left to give, yet will be doing it somewhere else for millions of dollars... He was a bit surprised that experience was less dramatic than Roger Clemens coming to the Yankees in late May for $28 million. I have to say... um... so am I - although I wasn't physically present for either, which I can only guess makes all the difference in the world... or something.
